Role Overview

The Editor will play a pivotal role in transforming Design Week into the premier source of design news, insights, and inspiration. This role involves working closely with the publisher (Interconnect IT Ltd) to set a forward-thinking content strategy, managing a team of talented reporters, commissioning high-quality contributions, and ensuring the publication maintains its reputation for excellence. A genuine passion for design is essential to drive the publication’s success

Key Responsibilities

Content Strategy and Relaunch

  • Lead the relaunch of Design Week, ensuring a fresh and innovative approach to content.
  • Collaborate with the publisher to develop and implement a comprehensive content strategy that aligns with the vision of Interconnect and Design Week.
  • Identify emerging trends and opportunities within the design industry to keep the publication ahead of the curve.
  • Oversee costs and ensure adherence to budgets.

Editorial Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of reporters, editors, and contributors, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.
  • Oversee the commissioning of articles, features, and multimedia content from both internal staff and external contributors.
  • Ensure all content meets high editorial standards and adheres to the publication’s style and tone.

Content Management

  • Plan and coordinate the editorial calendar, ensuring a consistent flow of engaging and relevant content.
  • Edit and proofread content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and quality.
  • Ensure content is legally compliant.
  • Manage relationships with freelance writers, photographers, and other creative professionals to produce top-tier content.

Audience Engagement

  • Develop strategies to grow and engage Design Week’s audience across multiple platforms, including web, social media, and newsletters.
  • Analyse audience metrics and feedback to continually refine and improve content offerings.
  • Represent Design Week at industry events, conferences, and other networking opportunities to build the publication’s profile.

Innovation and Adaptability

  • Embrace new technologies and platforms to enhance the reader experience and expand Design Week’s reach.
  • Stay informed about industry developments and competitor activities to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Take a passionate lead in overseeing and coordinating the Design Week Awards and other potential events.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience as an Editor or in a senior editorial role, preferably within the design industry.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a diverse team.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading abilities.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Proficiency with digital content management systems and an understanding of SEO best practices.
  • A genuine passion for design.
  • A proactive and innovative mindset.

Location

This is a hybrid remote role, with occasional travel to our offices. We are located in central Liverpool in the Knowledge Quarter, which means we can take advantage of the great facilities on offer in the area. We’re just a 20 minute walk from Liverpool Lime Street train station and well connected to the local and wider road network.
